Back to the New 52.
So I actually kind of like a bit of what they did with the Justice League.
So when the Justice League was relaunched in the New 52, there was three Justice League titles.
JUSTICE LEAGUE–Justice League started off with the origin story five years earlier. This story is set about six months after Superman’s debut and a year after Batman’s career began. No Appelexian invasion this time around. They started off with the big bad Darkseid invading Earth and bringing together the greatest and newest heroes. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Cyborg. Cyborg is new to the founding roster in this reboot. The Martian Manhunter is involved but he’s now a member of another team so he can’t join the League.
I thought they story was good. The idea was good. However, like much of the New 52, a lot of questions were raised. After the first story arc, they jump forward five years. The five year period of missing stories were not the same adventures as the original version, and we weren’t sure if they had disbanded or operated the whole time.
Justice League International–As the “present” period of the New 52, the original League had disbanded, and Batman created a new international version. It is clear that in this new timeline, the JLI period never happened. So this is the first formation of the Justice League International. Unlike the original JLI, this team actually was more of a international version, with heroes representative of various nations. It was more serious than the original JLI and the series didn’t last very long before it was cancelled and replaced by the Justice League of America, a new version of the League that was controlled by the U.S. government.
Justice League Dark–This was a pretty neat idea, but in many ways it was just a redo of the Sentinels of Magic and later Shadowpact. When the Justice League has disappeared, the magic based heroes form together as the Justice League.
There’s not much more to say about the League here. Next time around, I’ll talk about the golden age and JSA in the New 52.
