And now back to the nerdy stuff.
I was discussing the New 52 and how it affected different aspects of the DCU differently.
Green Lantern was a little like Batman in the reboot.
At the time of the reboot, Green Lantern was popular again. So they decided not to reboot it. Well, except, as we discussed, when you have an intertwined continuity among all your titles, in a vast mythos spanning decades, you can’t just do a reboot that doesn’t affect some titles.
So while the Green Lantern tales continued where they left off before Flashpoint, a lot of the history of Green Lantern no longer happened.
So Doomsday did kill Superman, but the Reign of the Supermen didn’t happen. So did Cyborg Superman and Mongul still blow up Coast City, leading to Hal Jordan becoming Parallax? He still became Parallax, and did that whole killing all the Lanterns thing. But he didn’t do the Zero Hour and Final Night things that were important to his arc. But he did clearly do some sort of evil things, then sacrificed himself, then came back.
Kyle Rayner was a Green Lantern. So his thing happened. Except that Major Force hadn’t existed to kill his first girlfriend. And his second and third girlfriends (Donna Troy and Jade) both no longer existed. So, he had adventures, but they were clearly very different.
Sigh. But hey, people love those Red Lanterns….
Next, let’s talk about what they did to the Justice League.
